Frequently Asked Questions

1

Some of these courses look familiar. If I have taken one of these courses previously, can I get credit again?

Courses #366636 (Ethics - Foundational Ethics and Principles for Insurance Agents), Courses #366636 (Ethics – Foundational Ethics and Principles for Insurance Agents), #366671 (Ethics – Worthy of your Clients’ Trust), and #388583 (Compliance Spotlight – 2023) have been hosted previously by W&B at various times. If you have taken any of these courses during your current two-year license period, you will not receive credit for taking them a second time. Please visit the California Department of Insurance site to view a listing of the CE classes you’ve taken in your current license period.

How long do I have to stay signed in for to receive credit?

In order to receive CE Credit, you need to be online for the full duration of the webinar. Be sure you sign on before the start of the course — and stay on to answer all polling questions during the webinar. If you don’t sign on and take part in the full course — including answering each polling question as it is displayed — you will not receive CE Credit.

The California Department of Insurance (DOI) CE Credit rules stress that CE courses are both an audio and visual experience; you must experience the two to receive CE Credit from the DOI.

Can I share my Zoom link to a course with colleagues?

No. Your links to join Zoom are unique to you, and are an important factor in processing CE Credit with the California DOI. When you registered for WOW, you submitted your official license name and number, which are now associated with your unique Zoom join links, and are used for CE Credit processing.

Each Zoom link only allows one admission. Brokers who wish to register for WOW must do so individually on the WOW registration page.

When will I receive CE Credits from the DOI?

The California DOI will review CE records within 30 days of your completion of each course and assign credits if applicable.

The department suggests brokers complete required CE Credit hours at least 60 days prior to the expiration date of your license to allow sufficient time for providers to submit necessary information to update your records. If hours are completed near or at the end of your renewal term, your credits will still count and you will be able to renew, but your renewal may be delayed.

To check your CE Credit hours, visit the California DOI Continuing Education page.

If I have registered for WOW, but I have not received a course link – or, if I can’t find my course link – what can I do?

Send an email to wow@wordandbrown.com prior to the scheduled start of your course. Keep in mind that each webinar has a unique URL. If, for example, you signed up for five CE Credit courses, you should have five unique course login links.

Will the WOW courses include the DOI-required course covering fraud prevention?

No. The only way to earn credit for the state-mandated course is to experience the Department of Insurance’s on-demand course, either on YouTube, by downloading slides and reading the course transcript, or by watching the video in a classroom supervised by an instructor. Check out our Newsroom post for all the details for this new requirement and how to take care of it: Important Licensing CE Change for California Agents – Fraud-Prevention Ethics Training .
