2025 Employee Benefits Trends – Core and Voluntary
For employers, staying up to date on employee benefits trends can be challenging. Surveys by SHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management), KFF, and insurance players like Mercer and MetLife sometimes yield conflicting priorities and feedback. So, you may be asking, how can you and your clients determine the best strategy for delivering a meaningful benefits package for employees?
Look at results – both overlapping and contradictory.
Benepass says in its 2025 Benefits Benchmarking Guide that Flexible Work Arrangements rank as the number one benefit trend for employees. In a competitive talent marketplace, it is important employers find a way to balance workers’ desire to limit their in-office presence. (Forbes said in 2023 that 98% of workers expressed a desire to work remotely at least part of the time.) ebm Insurance Solutions’ research found flexible work arrangements and remote work options are especially important for Millennial and Generation Z employees.
ebm says the significance of employee benefits cannot be overstated. Offering a comprehensive employee benefits program is critical to helping employers attract and retain their best employees. Beyond Medical, ebm found Wellness and Mental Health Programs, Professional Development and Upskilling, and Tailored and Inclusive Benefits are among the most desired employee benefits.
Guardian’s Top Benefits Trends for 2025: Prioritizing Workforce Well-being projects more employers will integrate disability absences and wellness solutions. One strategy is integrating supplemental health insurance and mental health benefits, which are increasingly sought-after by employees.
Another expectation is that employers will offer more resources to help employees with their financial struggles. Even in dual-income households, rising inflation, higher debts, and concerns about the potential impact of tariffs are increasing employee financial anxiety. That, of course, adversely affects employee wellness.
