Prepare for IRS Reporting Season: Don’t Fear the Forms!

The beginning of a new year brings us many challenges, opportunities, and lots to celebrate. As we approach the end of the year, it’s time to start thinking about the year ahead – and our groups’ compliance responsibilities that occur at the beginning of a new year.

Employers considered Applicable Large Employers (ALEs) in the 2018 tax year must report on the coverage they offered (or did not offer) to eligible Full Time (FT) employees and their dependents in 2018; they must use IRS Forms 1094-C and 1095-C, in accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) employer mandate.

Non-ALE employers that sponsored self-insured coverage in 2018 must also report on the coverage offered to eligible FT employees using IRS Forms 1094-B and 1095-B.

Due dates for these forms vary throughout the first quarter of the year. The first date to be aware of is January 31, 2019, when reporting employers must distribute IRS Forms 1095-B or 1095-C to covered individuals/employees.

All forms are due to the IRS on or before February 28th or April 1st, 2019, depending on how the employer is submitting the forms to the IRS (by mail or electronically).
